Tour des Danys
The oldest building of Le Cannet kept as built, a tithe tower nicknamed by Mérimée

The Tour des Danys, named after one of Le Cannet's founding families, was a tithe house built by the monks of Lérins to close the entrance to the town on the road from Cannes; probably not before the mid-sixteenth century, it is the oldest building in Le Cannet kept as it was. Square, nine metres high, it has nine machicolations under its roof, and its first door was three metres above the ground.
Prosper Mérimée, passing through, asked an old woman its name; she answered in Provençal about a drunken brigand who lived there, and he called it the Tour des Brigands, a name still heard. It has been an inscrit historic monument since 22 December 1941.
Tour des Danys is a sight on Rue de Cannes in Le Cannet. The bus stop Place Leclerc (Orangers) is 100 m away (about 2 min on foot).
