Musée Jean Cocteau - Le Bastion
The seventeenth-century harbour fort that Cocteau turned into his own museum

The Bastion is a small seventeenth-century fort built by the princes of Monaco as an advance defence for the harbour, once in the water and now on the shoreline. In 1957 the mayor offered it to Jean Cocteau for a museum; he rearranged and decorated it in his last years and chose the works himself, and it opened in 1966, three years after his death.
Since the larger Cocteau museum on the seafront closed after the storm of October 2018, the Bastion shows exhibitions from its collection.
