Les Musiciens – officially the Thiers quartier – lies a few minutes' walk west of Avenue Jean-Médecin, and most of its streets carry the names of composers: Rossini, Verdi, Berlioz, Gounod, Place Mozart at its heart. Some of them knew Nice well; Mozart never came.

It was built on market gardens after the annexation of 1860, as the winter trade took off, and its apartment palaces and hotels mostly date from the start of the twentieth century. Of all the city's quartiers, it is the one that most completely keeps the architecture of Nice's Belle Époque, 1860 to 1914.
