Aimé and Marguerite Maeght, printers, publishers and dealers, were friends of Bonnard, Matisse, Miró, Calder, Léger, Braque, Giacometti and Chagall; their foundation grew out of those friendships. Its building, by the Catalan architect Josep Lluís Sert, was inaugurated by André Malraux in 1964, making it France's first independent foundation for modern art.

Temporary exhibitions fill the rooms, and sculptures stand in the gardens. It lies just outside the walled village.

Fondation Maeght is a museum on Chemin des Gardettes in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. The bus stop Chemin des Trious is 250 m away (about 4 min on foot).
