The building
Built in 1870 in the Napoléon III style by Hippolyte de Villemessant, the founder of Le Figaro, as a «Villa Soleil» where writers could work in peace – Jules Verne and Anatole France among them – it became a hotel in 1889. The Eden-Roc pavilion over the sea followed in 1914, and the saltwater pool cut into the rock after the First World War. It has been the great hotel at the tip of the Cap ever since.
Good to know. Boulevard J.-F.-Kennedy, at the tip of the Cap.
