The building
Antibes’s archaeology museum sits in the Bastion Saint-André, built in 1698 on Vauban’s plans at the southern tip of the town walls; its two brick-vaulted galleries were the garrison’s refectory. Opened in 1963 after a run of shipwreck finds, it tells the story of Antipolis from the seventh century BC to the fifth century AD – from Etruscan and Greek pottery and the Terpon pebble, the town’s oldest inscription, to the cargoes of wrecks found in the Anse Saint-Roch. Climb to the roof terrace for the view the town recommends.
Good to know. On the sea wall, at the southern end of the old town. Check the season’s opening days on the town’s page.
