Villa Arson
Art school and contemporary-art centre in an 18th-century villa

The Villa Arson brings together a national school of art, a contemporary-art centre, artists' residencies and a specialist library, run by the Ministry of Culture. It opened in 1972 in a two-hectare estate on the hill of Saint-Barthélemy, north of the centre, with a wide view over the city.
The house is an eighteenth-century Italian-style villa that the Avignon merchant Pierre-Joseph Arson bought in 1812; his family turned the farmland into Italian terraced gardens with statues, balustrades and baroque fountains.
