Called the church of the Templars, though the Templars never held it, the church stands in the old medieval village on a site occupied since Roman times. Digs found, over a Roman building, the foundations of three earlier churches, from the sixth century onwards; the present Romanesque church, a nave of three bays and a semicircular apse about 22 metres long, was rebuilt from around 1180 to 1200.

Its tower, like that of Fréjus cathedral, may date from the thirteenth century. Church, ramparts and tower are classé and form part of the archaeological museum; the church holds its temporary exhibitions, the crypts can be visited, and from the top of the tower a viewing table looks over the sea and the town.

Église des Templiers is a place of worship on Rue de la Vieille Eglise in Saint-Raphaël. The station Saint-Raphaël-Valescure is 350 m away (about 5 min on foot).
