About Port Vauban

The harbour grew in the Anse Saint-Roch from the sixteenth century; the jetty and channel of the old port were begun in 1648, and the fishermen still land their catch at the old quay below the walls. The marina opened in 1971 and has more than 1,500 berths; since 1986 its outer quay has taken yachts of 50 to 165 metres – the «Quai des Milliardaires».

From the Bastion Saint-Jaume, at the end of the quay, Jaume Plensa’s Nomade – an eight-metre figure made of letters – has looked out to sea since 2010. Across the water stands the Fort Carré; behind you, the Porte Marine leads into the old town.
