Basilique Notre-Dame
The neo-Gothic basilica of 1864–1879 on Avenue Jean-Médecin, the largest church in Nice

Notre-Dame was built between 1864 and 1879 to plans by Charles Lenormand – the largest church in Nice, neo-Gothic and modelled on the cathedrals of Paris and Angers, with two square towers 31 metres high around a great rose window of the Assumption. Building in the Gothic, then thought of as the French style, was part of the effort to make the city French after the annexation.
It was consecrated in 1925 and made a minor basilica in 1978. On 29 October 2020 an Islamist attack here killed three people.
