The «Musée Barla»: Nice's oldest municipal museum, founded in 1846

The natural history museum, which the Niçois call the Musée Barla, is the city's oldest municipal museum. It was born of the Niçois school of naturalists led by Antoine Risso and opened in 1846; the collections of Jean-Baptiste Vérany and Jean-Baptiste Barla were brought together in 1863.
It is at 60 Boulevard Risso, by Place Garibaldi, and its specimens come mostly from the Mediterranean.
