The church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur, still called the Gesù, was built in the seventeenth century by the Jesuits as the chapel of their college, in the baroque. The new church was begun in 1642 and its shell finished by 1650; it became a parish church in 1802.

It stands on Rue Droite in the old town – the same street as the Palais Lascaris.
