Benedictines of the abbey of Saint-Pons had a chapel here, first mentioned in 1010; in 1546 they gave it to the Franciscan friars, who enlarged it over the centuries into the monastery that stands today, with the church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption and a Franciscan museum.

The church holds three of Louis Bréa's major works – a Pietà, a Crucifixion and a Deposition – and the monastery gardens, with their rose beds, have one of the best views of Nice and the sea.
