Jardin Albert 1er
One of Nice's oldest public gardens, between Place Masséna and the sea

The Jardin Albert-Ier lies between Avenue des Phocéens, Place Masséna, Avenue de Verdun and the Promenade des Anglais, on the marshy ground at the old mouth of the Paillon. It has been the Jardin Paradis, the Jardin des Plantes, the Jardin Masséna and the Jardin des Palmiers; since 1914 it has carried the name of Albert I, King of the Belgians.
The planting list of 1851 ran to chestnuts, elms, limes, mimosas, carobs and umbrella pines. Today the garden is the green link between the old town, the Promenade du Paillon and the sea.
