The Carré d'Or is the grid of streets between the Promenade des Anglais and Boulevard Victor Hugo, from the Jardin Albert-Ier westward. Its sea edge is the stretch of the Promenade with the Negresco and the Palais de la Méditerranée; its eastern edge is the Jardin Albert-Ier, one of the city's oldest public gardens, laid out on the marshy ground at the mouth of the Paillon and named in 1914 after King Albert I of the Belgians.

Rue de France runs through it on the line of the old Route de France, for centuries the only carriage road from Nice to the French border on the Var. In our map the quartier is drawn from INSEE's IRIS units, so its edges are approximate.
