Villa Santo Sospir
The villa whose walls Jean Cocteau «tattooed» from 1950 – visits by reservation

Santo Sospir, at 14 Avenue Jean-Cocteau, was built between 1931 and 1935 in the regional Mediterranean style. Invited for a few days in 1950, Jean Cocteau asked if he might draw a head of Apollo over a fireplace – and went on to cover the walls, his first great mural decoration, which he filmed in La Villa Santo Sospir (1952). He returned for long stays until his death in 1963.
The villa can be visited by reservation. Its name is a variant of Saint Hospice, the hermit of the cape.
Villa Santo Sospir is a listed building on Avenue Jean Cocteau in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. The bus stop La Mauresque is 300 m away (about 4 min on foot).
