The building
The Château Grimaldi stands where the acropolis of Greek Antipolis stood, above the sea wall. Picasso was offered part of it as a studio in 1946 and worked here that autumn; he left the town 23 paintings and 44 drawings, and in December 1966 the château officially became the Musée Picasso. The collection now also holds Nicolas de Staël’s Antibes works, rooms for Hans Hartung and Anna-Eva Bergman, and a terrace of sculptures by Germaine Richier facing the Mediterranean.
Good to know. In the old town, up the steps from the cathedral. Opening days change with the season – check the museum’s page before you go.
