The Croisette takes its name from a little cross that seafarers raised on the point of the cape; the archives already call it the cape «of the cross» in 1369. Along its curve stand the palace hotels – the Carlton of 1909–13, the Majestic of 1923–26, the Martinez of 1929 – with their private beaches below the promenade, alternating with the public ones.

At its eastern end the Pointe Croisette is a residential peninsula facing the Lérins Islands, with the Port Pierre-Canto, opened in 1965, and a second small port at the cape.
